When you find it hard to talk or hard to walk or just plain hard to do some of thing’s others take for granted, one of the happiest types of therapy you can do is equine therapy or put simply, spend time with a horse. This type of therapy is as much about being at a stable, getting to know a horse, helping to feed and take care of the horse and when ready, hopping on board and developing a relationship with your chosen animal. This therapeutic approach uses horses and equine-assisted activities in order to develop the social, cognitive, physical, emotional, behavioural and educational skills of young people and adults who face additional challenges.
The Meeting Place Club is very fortunate to have Child Vision stables in Drumcondra in easy reach and given their extensive experience of working with children with a variety of additional needs, it has proven a very good fit. Costing 3,600 a year, we seek to ensure that finance is not a barrier and any young person who can benefit from this approach, is facilitated to attend. Some chose to help around the stales while others work with a staff member on a one-to-one basis to learn horse riding with each session tailored to meet their individual needs.
Riding promotes strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and confidence for riders and parents report that their children are relaxed, calm and tired once they get home.
